Western Australian Curriculum Conference at Delhi discusses 'Integrating WACE into India's Future-Ready Schools'
In a landmark step towards redefining learning pathways for Indian school students, Western Australian Certification International (WACInternational) hosted an insightful conference bringing together educational leaders to explore the integration of WACE into India's evolving educational landscape.
The FAQs
Yes. The Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) is awarded by the School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA), which is a statutory body of the Government of Western Australia. In 2023, the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) officially given equivalence to WACE qualification in year 2023.
Schools that offer WACE qualification have the flexibility to integrate Indian content such as CBSE/NIOS or state-prescribed history, along with world history from Western Australian School Board (SCSA). They can also include regional and national languages as part of the curriculum. This helps students stay connected to Indian culture and language while also benefiting from an international framework.
The Central and State School Boards in India are exams driven and give lot of emphasis on memorization. Western Australian School Board (SCSA)instead develops skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and teamwork. It is designed according to international standards, while also keeping pace with NEP 2020. The program ensures students are ready for both higher education in India and opportunities abroad.
The curriculum includes a wide choice of subjects across major academic fields such as English, Mathematics, Science, Humanities and Social Sciences, Arts, Technology, Health and Physical Education, and Languages. This gives students a balanced and comprehensive academic foundation.
WACE offers the academic depth of the IB and the flexibility of the IGCSE. Unlike IB, it allows students to create personalized subject pathways, and unlike IGCSE, it provides an officially recognized national qualification, the Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR). It prepares students for universities worldwide, focuses on conceptual learning and practical skills, and is aligned with India’s National Education Policy (NEP 2020).
The process of registration and accreditation usually takes between three to four months, provided all compliance requirements and teacher training are completed in time.
Schools receive ongoing support in many ways. Teachers are given annual training by SCSA- certified experts, both in-person and online. The schools also receive guidance in curriculum planning, exam preparation, and academic audits. In addition, the WAC International team in India provides year-round assistance for smooth implementation.
Yes. All teachers must complete professional development every year, approved and supervised by SCSA. This ensures teachers are well prepared, globally aligned, and capable of delivering the program effectively. There is no additional cost of teachers training
Exams are conducted in person at authorized schools or test centers across India. They are usually scheduled twice a year, in April and October, in line with the Indian academic calendar. Question papers are prepared by SCSA, and after the exams, answer scripts are sent to Australia for evaluation. Students who pass receive an official WACE certificate from the Government of Western Australia.
Assessments up to Grade 11 are carried out internally by the school under SCSA guidelines. In Grade 12, half of the marks come from school-based assessments and the other half from external exams linked to ATAR. The evaluation process includes classroom work, projects, presentations, exams, and global benchmarking, and parents receive detailed progress reports regularly.
Yes. Scholarships are offered at different levels. The Government of Western Australia provides merit scholarships of up to AUD 20,000. Every year, the two top-performing students also receive a full scholarship to study at universities in Western Australia. In addition, individual universities offer their own scholarships based on ATAR scores and academic performance.
Indian schools that meet basic academic and infrastructure standards can apply for accreditation. Schools need to have adequate facilities such as laboratories, libraries, and digital learning tools. They must also obtain a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state authorities and then apply formally to SCSA in Western Australia. Once the application is reviewed and approved, the school is granted accreditation to run the WACE program.
Schools can start the process by filling out the inquiry form available on the official website www.wacinternational.in. Once the form is submitted, the WAC International (SpringBoard4Education) team in India will guide the school through the steps of registration, accreditation, and onboarding.
